Our Community

The Electorate of Sturt is named in honour of Captain Charles Sturt, who conducted several journeys of exploration into Australia's interior, served for a period as commandant of the garrison on Norfolk Island and served in the South Australian public service. Covering an area of 97 square kilometres, Sturt stretches across Adelaide’s leafy Eastern belt from Hope Valley in the north across to Glen Osmond in the south.

Sturt is home over 130,000 registered voters, and home to seven local government areas, including the entirety of the Campbelltown City Council and the City of Norwood, Payneham and St Peters. Parts of the Adelaide Hills Council, City of Burnside, City of Port Adelaide Enfield, City of Tea Tree Gully, and the City of Unley. It is a vibrant and welcoming community where families, schools, businesses, volunteers, and multicultural communities all contribute to the electorate’s strength and character.

Multiculturalism is embedded in Sturt, with large Italian, Chinese and Indian communities bringing their language, culture, and food to our community.

Sturt is also characterised by sporting clubs, art studios, schools, early-learning centres, and small businesses, all working in parallel to make our community an engaging and supporting place to live.
